Toro Tormentos 

Die Tanz- und Videoperformance „Toro Tormentos“ ist nur ein Bestandteil des ca. 150 Exponate
umfassenden Stierzyklus.
Videomaterial von zahlreichen Spanienaufenthalten wird mit Anleihen aus dem klassischen tamilischen
Tempeltanz verbunden.
Im Zentrum dieser Performance steht der spanische Stierkampf, der aus zentraleuropäischer Sicht sehr brutal
und entsetzlich ist, aber einen wesentlichen Bestandteil der südspanischen Tradition darstellt.

Die Dynamik des Kampfes, durch die filigranen und anmutigen Tempeltänzerinnen dargestellt, wirkt zu der
experimentellen Gitarrenmusik von Helge Lange in hohem Maße entfremdend. Die Choreografie von Weiland verbindet
alles zu einem neuen Ganzen und während Weiland die Frage nach den wahren Inhalten von Leben, Tod und Opfer
stellt bezieht er gleichzeitig durch seine schonungslosen Bilder Stellung,
gegen Quälerei und inszenierten Tod.

TORO TORMENTOS

The dance and video performance TORO TORMENTOS is only one part of the TORO cycle with more than 150 exhibits.
Video material from many stays of Vaago Weiland in Spain is combined with the classical Tamil temple dance. In the focus
of this performance is the Spanish bullfight, which is very rough and appalling from the Central European point of view, but
which is a constituent part of tradition and identity for the south of Spain.

The dynamics of the fight, represented by the fine and graceful temple dance, is in every respect somewhat estranging.
It comes along with the experimental music composition by Helge Lange. The question about the meaning and the content
of life, death and sacrifice is raised.
